San Diegans Make 'Em Laugh With Laughter Yoga Practice



>> What is so funny? Believe it or not the answer right now is, well, nothing. These the participants clearly don't seem to mind. >> Laughter yoga participants say the activity reduceses stress and is good for the lungs and immune system, they loose it for conflict resolution and therapy. Laughter yoga was started in 1995 by Madam Kitaria, the doctor from India, he was convinced of the benefits of laughter so he started a laughter. >> We had one client in particular who said that during the time that we were doing laughter yoga, they didn't have any voices. >> It might seem too much to ask people to just laugh, but she says sometimes that simple relief is necessary. >> Doesn't mean that our stressors aren't real, doesn't mean that what you're going through is not hard, it doesn't mean that we're making light of it, what we're doing is allowing there to be lightness. >> She teaches laugher yoga a few times a month, sharp asked us not to show the faces of her class participants. >> Don't worry, don't laugh! Okay, you it did laughter yoga, you guys are good at it. >> It's okay to let them be light in a dark time in their life because we talk about how it won't be like this. >> She says there are a few times when laughter isn't appropriate but those times are very rare. >> My initial reaction, I might go ha ha, somebody else might want to get them laughing. >> He hopes to bring laughter to other places, couples therapy even an area where he works, landlord tenant relations and evictions. >> I have all sorts of ideas, in divorce, family law, if we get the husband's and would I have to laugh separately, before they come together to talk about resolution, and we want what is best for the family and to kind of cut that, I don't know, whatever that is we have. >> DWANE BROW ecause as the song says, don't you know, everyone wants to laugh. >> "Don't you know, everyone wants to laugh. >> Claire Trageser, KPBS news.
